Clare-Gladwin CTE Welding Students Win People’s Choice Award at Clare Sculpture Walk
Students in the Welding Technology program at Clare-Gladwin Career & Technical Education (CTE) earned the People’s Choice Award at the Destination Clare Art Sculpture Walk for their sculpture, “Shamrock Staircase.” The award is determined by votes from members of the public, recognizing the piece as a community favorite among all entries.
The Clare Art Sculpture Walk is an outdoor exhibit featuring 10 selected sculptures, chosen by a committee and displayed throughout downtown Clare in various public locations.
“Shamrock Staircase,” created by Clare-Gladwin CTE students, features tiered shamrocks accented by welded elements representing the many attractions and activities found throughout Clare County. The design reflects the county’s history and traditions, from its early logging roots to outdoor recreation such as camping, fishing, and golfing, with a train station serving as a central, culminating feature.
Each element was selected to represent a part of the community’s story, combining technical welding skills with artistic design. The sculpture stood out for its craftsmanship and its reflection of Clare County’s history and traditions, earning broad support from the public.
This recognition highlights the hands-on, real-world learning and practical application taking place in Clare-Gladwin CTE programs.
